About

Jaclyn SchiffI’m a journalist / media consultant / content writer based in Washington, D.C. I work as a Web reporter with a focus on global health for Kaiser Health News, a non-profit health policy news service. For now, you can learn more about it here.

There are tons of great stories out there that deserve to be told. But I believe that in this age of decentralized media, even the most outstanding articles don’t sell themselves. As a result, I consider marketing content just as important as creating content.

I first fell in love with journalism after watching April O’Neil from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” As a reporter, April always seemed to be in the know, and her press credentials granted her access to cool events. It took just a few episodes to get me hooked on the idea of going into media.

My fascination with the news industry and the changing media landscape has landed me several exciting professional opportunities. I’ve worked in communications at a major lobbying organization and I’ve done PR for a range of political and non-profit clients. I’ve written for a variety of print and online publications, produced Web sites and directed the news department of an Internet radio station. Through these experiences, I’ve developed a unique perspective on the relationships between information, media and the public.

This blog explores these interests and includes subjects such as media trends, the evolution (and convergence) of journalism and PR and creative uses of social media.
